Agency Mission Statement:

To deliver outstanding clinical service to the critically ill and our patients with lung disease, pose questions concerning important issues in our specialty and search for answers through our research efforts, and teach other physicians and students aspects of our clinical specialty.

Agency Goals and Programs:

DPACCM provides state-of-the-art clinical care for patients with asthma, allergic diseases, and airway disease and aims to develop preventive and treatment protocols for the identified programs along with many other goals.

Agency Impact:

DPACCM has provided primary and consultative care for patients with various lung diseases on an inpatient and outpatient basis for years. In addition, they also direct services and provide attending intensive care for patients in the medical and surgical intensive care units at Duke Hospital and Durham VA Medical Center.

Volunteer Duties:

  • Performing PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction, which amplifies DNA strands)
  • Purifying RNA
  • Performing Real Time PCR (which records the amount of DNA as it is being amplified)
  • Extracting proteins
  • Performing Western Blot to collect data for the supervisor’s research
