Agency’s Mission Statement

To actively be involved with the enhancement and promotion of the Confucius Institute (CI) to North Carolina State University (NC State) and the local community in order to spread inter-cultural understanding throughout North Carolina. To provide guidance, direction and support to improving the goals and mission of the CI.

Agency’s Goals and Programs Offered to Clients/People Served

The Confucius Institute aims to spread cultural understanding in North Carolina, and does so through many short and long term projects. Their programs include: supporting Chinese language classes at NCSU by providing lectures by nanjing Normal University’s visiting professors; teaching non-credit Chinese language courses in the McKimmon center; providing professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers of the Chinese language; collaborating with local schools to promote Chinese language and culture; providing economic development opportunities for local businesses, including support and orientation, counseling of business conduct in China; and offering cultural training classes for business executives.

Impact the Agency Has Made on the Community

The Confucius Institute has spread understanding of the Chinese culture by offering classes both to students of NCSU and local learners. This institute also encourages the teaching of the Chinese culture through interactive programs such as summer culture camps, training workshops, and Chinese speech and writing contests. It also incorporates a wide range of local people by providing fun activities such as film festivals at local theatres and acting as liaisons to other programs of similar nature.
