NC Association for Biomedical Research

Agency Goals and Programs: The association has created a program called Science in the Cinema to interest high school students in medical science dilemmas. Agency Impact: Almost 3,500 teachers from 93 NC counties have participated in the programs offered by the association. NC State College of Natural Resources

This agency also tests and analyzes our water supply for bacteria and other toxins. It helps provide solutions to make sure we have the natural resources we need in the future. Agency’s Impact on the Community The Center for Applied Aquatic Ecology has done research in cyanobacteria in water reservoirs in North Carolina, and has also done projects that help protect wildlife habitats such as estuaries and rivers. CNR has worked with NC State to install facilities that use less energy, and has also created  a golf course that does not destroy the trees and wildlife habitat. The mission of the initiative reflects the aspirations and strengths of multiple university leadership programs ‘to inspire, educate and develop values-based leaders committed to personal integrity, professional ethics, and selfless service.’” My intake of this mission statement is that the Shelton Leadership program seeks to make today’s youth better leaders for the future. The program stresses five cornerstones to a great leader: honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility. Young men and women from throughout North Carolina and the nation, attend the Shelton Leadership program.   As a previous participant of this program, I can testify that this program does, indeed, fulfill their mission statement.
