It involves generating, transmitting, applying, and preserving knowledge for the benefit of audiences outside NCSU. The outreach effort is independent of the formal degree-granting process, occurs in a variety of forms and places, and is an integral part of the university’s broader mission. Agency Goals and Programs: NCSU’s Dept. of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences offers 3 main program areas in Atmospheric sciences, Marine Science, and Geology. In its graduate programs, the department also offers collaborative research opportunities with faculty in other departments on NCSU’s campus. Agency Impact: The department provides outreach programs for elementary, middle, and high school students. They judge and host several science fair competitions, such as the NC Science Olympiad. They work with high school students in field and lab research also. They also advise NC agencies on environmental and meteorological issues.
