The agency’s goals are to reduce the rate of coronary heart disease and stroke by 25%, reduce the prevalence of smoking, high blood cholestrerol, and physical inactivity by 25%, and eliminate the growth of obesity and diabetes. Programs include various educational programs and a series of fundraising walks.

Impact the Agency Has Made on the Community

The agency has started the Go Red program, as well as Go Red for Women, designed to teach the public how to make healthy lifestyle hcoices. They also started Start!, a nationwide series of walks attempting to increase activity.

Mission Statement:

To encourage the youth in our community to preserve their Hindu culture and heritage.

Agency’s Goals and Programs:

The goals of the OM Squad are to promote volunteering in the youth of their community and to support HSNC in its programs and services. Activities include annual socials and summer camps, picnics, and much more. OM Squad volunteers in HSNC annual health fair help set up the food pantry in the temple, clean up the temple’s playground, and bring its members to activities such as walks and carnivals.

Agency Impact on Community:

OM Squad helps bond the youth in our community and is involved with most of the temple’s activities. OM Squad spreads the Hindu culture and shares the values and morals that came through volunteering.

Volunteer Duties:

• Being a camp counselor for the kids in the program
• Taking care of the participating children in the program
• Planning activities, meals, and the daily schedule
• Coordinating with other counselors and adult volunteers to run the camp smoothly

Agency’s Mission Statement

The agency aims to build a vibrant Telugu community and promote Telugu culture and language in the Triangle area of North Carolina.

Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

The agency hosts functions at certain times to celebrate festivals. The youth committee helps other organizations in the Triangle Area by providing volunteers.

Agency’s Impact on the Community

The youth committee has participated in the Adopt a Highway program, helped with the opening of a temple, and helped organize and set up events for a recent function. It is a new organization formed at the beginning of 2009.

• Welcome people to the temple for certain events
• Manage tickets and money during fundraising
