The mission of Simple Gifts Community Garden is to help us return to the simple and joyful life which God intended for us. Our garden will accomplish this by:

• Borrowing the gifts of land, time, talent and resources available to our community
• Building an organic garden to produce fresh and high quality fruits and vegetables while also building lasting friendships and cooperation within our community
• Sharing the knowledge of sustainable organic gardening practices, healthy food preparation and consumption as well as the bounty of our garden with each other and those in need within our community.

Vision: Simple Gifts Community Garden will sate our hunger as we grow fruits from the ground and feed our souls as we develop fruits of the spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Our garden will be a place of hospitality where all are welcomed and encouraged to share their gifts with others.

Members grow and harvest crops for their own families, and the food grown by the volunteers is given to local food banks to help those in need.

Agency’s Impact on the Community

The agency uses the earth to help feed those in need. People can either grow their own food or they can grow food for food banks. Not only has it relieved some of the hunger in the community, but it has also brought a sense of community into the area as people work together to complete each season’s harvest.

The ongoing mission of Western Wake Crisis Ministry  (WWCM) has been to help the community coordinate emergency aid and combine volunteers from the church and community to distribute aid.

Agency’s goals and programs offered to clients/people served:

This agency provides food and necessities to people in emergency situations, such as loss of a job. WWCM also provides financial aid to those in an emergency to help pay rent, electric/water bills, and prescription drug costs.

Impact agency has had on community:

The agency has helped feed those in dire need, and kept the utilities of their homes, which has become such a major issue with our continued recession.

Volunteer Duties:

• Transport food from the Eastern Central Food Bank of NC
• Prepare food packages to be distributed
• Perform other tasks such as cleaning
