Agency’s Mission Statement

A.P.S.R.C is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of companion animals within the Rockingham County area through humane education, pet assistance activities, advocacy, and homeless animal care, rehabilitation, and adoption services. A.P.S.R.C works cooperatively with other animal welfare groups and employees to achieve this objective.

Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

Goals:

1. To reduce animal neglect/abuse
2. To promote animal welfare and humane care of companion animals
3. To educate the public about proper pet care
4. To reduce the unwanted pet population through spay/neuter programs
5. To promote the establishment and maintenance of a modern, humane animal shelter

Programs:

• Behavioral Rehabilitation and Obedience Outreach – Helping dog owners train their pets
• Pet Care Assistance Program – Provides pet food, medical care, spay/neuter services, housing, transportation, etc. for pets whose owners are experiencing financial need
• Heroes Club – Educational programs provided to local schools consisting of humane education and training
• Shelter Support – volunteers work to help care for animals in current shelters and help raise funds for new shelters

Agency’s Impact on the Community

A.P.S. R.C. was instrumental in convincing the Board of Commissioners to approve the construction of a modern animal shelter for the county, and has advisory status for this project. A.P.S.R.C. played a major role in getting the animal gas chamber shut down in 2007. The agency has helped reduce the animal euthanasia rate and to  increase pet adoption, spay/neuter services, and transportation to qualified rescues/adopters out of state and instate.

Volunteer Duties

• Help with fundraising events and adoption events
• Assist in putting up pens, housing, fencing for needy families
• Animal care at shelter holding facility
