Agency Impact on Community: The hospital provides healthcare services to over 1.3 million people in 29 counties in Eastern NC and averages about 33,000 inpatients and 266,000 outpatients treated a year. It also provides employment for many young people, with over 900 physicians and 1,200 nurses. Pitt County Schools: The HUGS Center

Part of the Pitt County School system, the center is, “A place to teach, a place to grow, a place to realize your dreams.” Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served This summer program is an extension of the educational experience provided to the children during the regular school year. The children work on many communication skills that keep up with their IEP goals. Here, the children follow a daily routine similar to that from the school year to maintain and improve these skills. Agency’s Impact on the Community This division of the Pitt County School system has greatly facilitated the education of autistic children of ages 3 to 5. They’ve been given individualized attention and opportunities to learn in a safe and secure environment. This agency also gives these children a more natural transition to kindergarten.
