The agency serves to stockpile food supplies to be used by other organizations. Over 400 non-profit organizations use these supplies to provide emergency food assistance through such things as soup kitchens, food pantries, homeless shelters, etc.

Hunger and malnutrition can have devastating effects on people of all ages. Contrary to common belief, many people in modern America do not have access to a reliable supply of food. 2^nd Harvest helps to combat this problem by gathering and organizing massive supplies of food to be spread to those in need through other organizations.

Mission Statement:

To provide effective instruction based on each child’s individualized needs in a fun, natural environment and recreational setting.

ABC of NC Child Development Center offers a summer education program to children ages 3-12 with Autism Spectrum disorders. The program combines the fun and variety of experiences offered by a typical summer day camp with evidence-based educational programs for children with Autism.

Agency Impact on Community:

Since its beginning, ABC has helped many families with children with Autism. They have promoted the use of applied behavior analysis as a proven, effective treatment for Autism. ABC often provides care and services to families who could not usually afford them.

To assist people in crisis to meet essential life needs & to become self-sufficient.

Agency’s Goals and Programs:

Crisis offers help with utility and housing bills. Residents of Forsyth County who cannot afford medication may be able to receive their prescriptions from Crisis through a licensed, free pharmacy. Crisis also offers a ‘Breaking the Cycle Program’ for residents who repeatedly find themselves in crisis.

Agency Impact on Community:

Crisis Control has assisted 250 supporting congregations and has answered thousands of requests for assistance, from those in chronic poverty to the working poor.

• Working in the food pantry helping approved clients choose food and other products which they qualify for
• Transporting goods to client vehicles
• Collecting donations for food pantry
• Restocking and organizing shelves of the pantry
• Sorting through expired medication in the pharmacy

Our services are driven by community needs and are provided in a welcoming, responsive, and professional manner.

The agency’s goals are to provide free and equal access to resources and information to those who need it, and to foster lifelong learning along with reading. The people being served are allowed to check out books, CDs, DVDs, cassettes, and so on. Also, ebooks are available through the Forsyth County Library website. On top of that, for those who need a computer to use, they are allowed to use the ones available at the library, free of charge.

The library has impacted the lives of many, especially those who are less fortunate than others. It provides entertainment for those who don’t have the money to buy such things. Also, it provides services such as help with homework, help with job searches, information, etc.

Habitat for Humanity aims to build simple, decent, affordable houses with those who lack adequate shelter. Habitat also strives to make home-ownership possible in partnership with people who care.

Agency Impact on Community:

Habitat has built over 300,000 houses in 90 countries since its founding. Durham’s Habitat is currently building a green community at Hope Crossing, which houses families with inadequate accommodations.

To spread the beauty of pure mathematics to those with a desire to learn, but lacking in resources is our aim.

Agency’s Goals and Programs Offered to Clients/People Served

Trybicowyll Math Camp is a 6-day day camp offered to anyone interested in learning more math. By the end of the 6-day period, campers should be able to write proofs on an elementary level through use of techniques like contradiction and induction. They will also be familiar with important results in Number Theory (Fermat’s Little Theorem, Chinese Remainder Theorem, etc) and Geometry (Cesa’s Theorem, Powerosa Point, etc.) to the extent that they can apply these ideas and solve problem on an elementary olympiad level.

Impact the Agency Has Made on the Community

The agency has introduced areas of math including number theory, inequalities, and complex numbers far beyond what is taught in a standard curriculum to a group of students that otherwise lacks the resources to obtain. It has helped these students to learn how to express their ideas clearly and logically, which is needed in all areas of life.

• Prepare handouts and sets of problems for the campers to work on
• Give lectures on new mathematical materials as well as proof writing techniques
• Provide graded feedback on tests
• Organize and lead campers

WFUBMC has provided an opportunity for many teens wishing to volunteer in the summer. They contribute uniquely to the health of Forsyth County residents and wider Piedmont triad community. The research and education mission of the hospital significantly impacts the community profoundly.
