Agency Mission Statement:

To enable literate adults and youth to acquire the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and mathematics needed to solve problems encountered in daily life, to take full advantage of opportunities in their environment, and to take part in the transformation of their society.

Agency Goals and Programs:

The literacy council aims to provide basic life skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking through one-on-one tutor sessions. The council also strives to increase the reading in both the youth and adults by providing one-on-one tutoring for the undereducated and illiterate.

Agency Impact:

The literacy council has increased the literacy rate in the county and has encouraged adults and young people to read more.

To promote responsible pet care, thereby reducing the number of lost and unwanted pets in Polk County.

Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

To end or control pet over population by spay/neuter programs offered at our cost to the public in Polk County and through humane education.

Agency’s Impact on the Community

By reducing the number of homeless animals through education, spay/neuter programs, and re-homing of animals, we can improve Polk County.

Agency’s Mission Statement

The band itself does not have its own personal mission statement, but the school it belongs to does: West Columbus High School — where students learn in today’s world and lead in tomorrow’s society. West Columbus High School will be a school of excellence where students are prepared for life-long learning, productive work, healthy living, and responsible citizenship in a global society.

Agency’s Goals and Programs offered to Clients/People Served

The agency’s goals are to provide a healthy atmosphere for its members to improve musical, self-disciplinary, and leadership skills, and offers multiple musical ensembles throughout the school year (marching band, pep band, drum line, concert band, jazz band, and community band).

Agency’s Impact on the Community

The West Columbus HS Band has provided a productive, creative outlet for the area’s youth. Many of the brightest students at the school are involved in the band and find fulfillment in the close, family-like atmosphere that being in the band provides. Mr. Nickerson and his band have also brought recognition to the school’s and county’s names through its continued presence at competitions such as Band Beat, and the Jazz Band’s performance at the Governor’s inauguration.
