Agency Mission Statement:

“Kramden Institute, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable institution whose mission is to empower hardworking, less-advantaged students by giving them home computers, allowing them to bridge the digital divide and advance their achievement, strengthening their contribution to the community. We do this by collecting, refurbishing, and reusing computers, extending their useful lives.”

Agency Programs and Goals:

Kramden Institute aims to provide free refurbished computers to deserving underprivileged students so they can utilize the power of a computer to improve themselves and the community. The institute also tries to involve the community in its efforts.

Agency Impact:

The institute improves the lives of countless deserving kids across the state by providing them with free computers so that they may be better equipped for learning. Also, being a volunteer-based organization, they organize regular ‘Geek-a-thons’ and work nights, allowing community members to improve their computer knowledge while helping others.

Volunteer Duties:

Help refurbish computers by doing the following:

• Cleaning the computers
• Installing hardware
• Checking specifications
• Loading an operating system
• Installing software

Goodwill Industries is a well known agency throughout the community.  It is a non-profit agency that collects donations and sells these donations to fund various programs offered such as Job readiness, Job-link, etc.

• Assisting with computer needs
• Copying, faxing, and other office procedures.

The mission of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is to enhance the public’s understanding and appreciation of the environment in ways that emphasize the natural diversity of North Carolina and the southeastern United States and relate the region to the world as a whole.

Agencies Goals and Programs offered to clients/people served:

The North Carolina Museum of Natural of Sciences offers exhibits that link North Carolina’s environments such as its plants, animals, geology, prehistoric past, and geography. Their goal is to raise public awareness of the environment and its complexities. Following this goal, they also hold workshops, trips, and various programs and events (such as treks) that all help evolve their mission dynamically.

Impact agency has made on the community:

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is not only a museum, but it is an opportunity. For instance, they hold outreach programs, which include special presentations for schools during field trips. They also offer a variety of programs, some ranging from family programs to summer camps.  These help gain credibility within the public. For those extremely interested in natural sciences, there are also volunteer and research opportunities available.

• Greet incoming audiences.
• Learn about certain exhibits
• Introduce the exhibit with my new knowledge
• Overall be kind, polite, and helpful to those visiting the museum.
• Complete duties assigned to me.

The Boys and Girls Club strives to engage young people in activities with adults, peers and family members that enable them to reach their full potential. Diverse programs in five areas are offered to fulfill this goal: character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the arts, and sports, fitness, and recreation.

Agency Impact:

The Boys and Girls Club has positively impacted society by being a positive atmossphere for kids to learn, grow, and have wholesome fun with their peers.

• Assisting in maintaining proper care of club equipment
• Keeping the club neat, orderly, and in an attractive condition
• Assisting kids with physical activities
• Assisting kids with learning computer software

Agency’s mission statement:

Kicking 4 Hunger is dedicated to bringing the community together for a unified effort to feed the hungry through the game of soccer.

Agency goals and programs:

This organization provides soccer camps to children ages 5-12 completely free of charge. The camps do ask that campers donate non-perishable canned goods, but this request is completely optional. The agency aims to provide a quality, fun, free soccer camp to local youth while simultaneously raising food to feed the hungry in the community.

Impact Agency Has Made:

Kicking 4 Hunger has promoted the game of soccer and living a healthy lifestyle through its camps. Through the can donations, K4H has raised thousands of cans of food in its 5 years. Last summer alone, K4H raised 2,727 cans in 6 days worth of camp.

Volunteer Duties:

• Directing the camps this year by contacting people about field reservations, equipment, t-shirts, newspaper advertisements, etc.
• During the actual camp, coaches will arrive around 7-8am for a 9am start on camp. Camp lasts for three hours, until 12 noon.
• Clean up, load cans, and prepare the facilities for any other events going on that day for at least an hour or so.
• Help count the cans at the end of the week
• Deliver donated cans to the local food bank, the Cooperative Christian Ministries of Concord.
