RPhys Application form - due 9/28
INTEREST FORM FOR RESEARCH IN PHYSICS - Due Friday September 28 by 5pm.
Interested students should also attend one of the RPhys interest meetings (Tuesday 9/18 12:20pm or Wednesday 9/19 4:30pm, both in Bryan 439)
If you are interested in enrolling in the Research in Physics class, please answer the following questions and return this form to Dr. Bennett (by email or in 453 Bryan). Only a limited number of students can be accommodated in this class. I will contact students who are selected and will notify the Registrar that you may register for the class.
If you join Research in Physics this year, you should plan to continue your research next year at NCSSM. Students will be picked based on commitment, work ethic, dependability, skill, experience and ability to work independently. Having a specific idea for a research project is also a plus but is not essential. The opinions of other NSCCM faculty and staff on these qualifications will be sought. Please provide (where requested below) the names of those teachers, work supervisors, or other students who can discuss your ability to thrive in physics research.

THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ARE NOT A PREREQUISITE, BUT ARE RELEVANT.
Make sure you include names of references (and phone numbers if the person is not at NCSSM.). There are no specific prerequisites, but try to include all the information.
1. Are you taking physics (or have you already taken it) ? If so, which level and with whom?
2. What other science have you taken this year, and with whom?
3. What Math or Computer Science have you taken? With whom?
4. Who is your work-service supervisor? What do you do for work service?
5. Describe any experience you have with computer programming and computer operating systems.
6. What experience have you had performing data analysis? Give a reference.
7. Do you have any experience with experiments, science fair, research ? If so, describe.
8. How do you feel about working independently, coming up with your own ideas, and setting your own timetables for progress ?
9. How long have you been interested in Physics ?
10. What careers and professions interest you?
11. Do you have any ideas for possible research projects ? If not, what sort of project (theoretical, experimental, computational ? particular areas of physics ?) might interest you ?
12. Please write a short paragraph about why you would like to spend two trimesters this year and several trimesters next year conducting physics research.
