1/28/12 - Congratulations to the members of the NCSSM Science Bowl Teams who won First and Second Place at the Regional competition. The First Place team, captained by Pranav Haravu, along with Tejas Sundaresan, Calvin Deng, Vipul Vachharajani, and Yu Wang, will compete in the National Competition on April 26 in Washington, DC and will represent the state of North Carolina. Captain Carsten Peterson's team, including Jaret Dawson, Ashwin Monian, and Jason LIang, took a close Second Place.
Thanks to Mrs. Leslie Brinson and Ms. Jackie Bondell for coaching the teams.
"The high school competition began in 1991 as the National Science Bowl (NSB) as a highly competitive science education and academic event among teams of high school students who compete in a fast-paced verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. Each team is composed of four students, one alternate student, and a coach. Regional and national events encourage student involvement in math and science activities of importance to the Department of Energy and the Nation.
Regional science bowl championship teams receive an all-expenses paid trip to compete at the national event. High school and middle school teams travel to Washington, D.C. in May. The national events are several days of science activities, sightseeing, and competitions. Teams enjoy the entire science bowl experience and take home many prizes. There are cutting-edge science seminars and hands-on science activities." For more information on Science Bowl, see http://science.energy.gov/nsb/
