Lisa Zheng wins writing award from RSI
The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) is pleased to announce Lisa Zheng of North Carolina School of Science and Math chosen by an eminent panel of judges as one of the top ten Research Science Institute scholars out of seventy-seven at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) this summer. Ms. Zheng was one of five students to receive a top written award at the twenty-eighth annual RSI for recognized secondary school academic achievers. Lisa Zheng’s research involved, An Inhibitory Model for Neuronal Symmetry Breaking. She was mentored by Mr. Zachary Wissner-Gross, a Hertz Fellow pursuing a Ph.D. at Harvard University and MIT. “Lisa represented outstanding academic talent and demonstrated a profound understanding of her science research project,” said Joann P. DiGennaro, CEE President. “Her acumen in computational biology and biomedical engineering studies will serve her well as she pursues a scientific career.”
CEE’s Research Science Institute (RSI), nationally and international recognized, is offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). RSI is a six week intensive program that provides students with the opportunity to conduct original, cutting edge research in state-of-the-art university laboratories, hospitals and corporate research facilities. Following the conclusion of RSI, CEE continues to provide interaction and enrichment opportunities for alumni throughout the 8-10 years of their undergraduate and graduate years. RSI is the single U.S. program offered at no cost for students competitively selected to attend. Funding for the program comes from corporations, foundations, individuals and U.S. government agencies.
