Dr. Tougas has offered Special Study Options in Advanced Latin Literature and Russian novels. With the help of the Echo Foundation, she also sponsored a special study option of Elie Wiesel's work and brought forty NCSSM students to Charlotte to meet him in person.

For mini-term she offers a course called "Blues Time" in which students listen to both old blues and new.
