IE376 Research Experience in Mathematical Chemistry

Trimester:
Spring
Offered:
2011

Mathematical Chemistry is the area of research that works to understand how mathematics and mathematical methods can be used to understand interesting chemical events. This topic is sometimes called “computer chemistry” and is not the same as computational chemistry. Math chem studies the underlying mathematical principles of chemical systems. In this class, you will learn a wide variety of mathematical/numerical techniques and how they can be applied to the understanding of chemistry. This course has its foundation in a course called “Numerical Methods” at the university level, with all of the examples coming from the discipline of chemistry. The primary tool for this course will be Mathematica, with some spreadsheet work.
