Research Interests

Community and ecosystem ecology in montane forests. Specifically I calculated fine root production and turnover in 5 forest communities at the Coweeta Hydrologic Lab, a Long Term Ecological Research site. This data was used to develop carbon cycling models for the Southern Appalachian Mountains. I also studied tropical forest regeneration in abandoned pastures near the Las Cruces Biological Station, San Vito, Costa Rica.

Curriculum Development

I am currently developing curriculum for the NC Department of Public Instruction. Agriscience and Biotechnology is a four year course sequence that will be taught in specially designated STEM high schools across the state.
