Outreach

Outreach Efforts: From 2006-2010, I was Principal Investigator for the Research Experience in Chemistry, Astronomy and Physics (RECAP) program, a collaborative effort with UNC-Chapel Hill that matched high school juniors and seniors from NCSSM and schools around North Carolina with research mentors at NCSSM and UNC-CH for a 3-week intensive summer research program. This program was funded by a grant from the NC GlaxoSmithKline Foundation. I have given presentations at state and national meetings of the American Association of Physics Teachers on ideas for teaching physics. I also sometimes give physics demonstration presentations to elementary schools in Durham.  Each fall, I take several NCSSM physics students to the conference of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society (SESAPS), where they give poster presentations of their research projects.
