Colin Firth, Emily Blunt film to shoot scenes at NCSSM

On Thursday, November 10 the feature film titled “Arthur Newman, Golf Pro,” starring Academy Award winner Colin Firth (“The King's Speech,” “Bridget Jones's Diary”) and Golden Globe winner Emily Blunt (“The Devil Wears Prada,” “The Adjustment Bureau”) will be using parts of the NCSSM campus for filming.

“Arthur Newman, Golf Pro”
The movie follows a man, played by Firth, who missed his one shot at living the dream. He decides to fake his own death in an attempt to reinvent himself and meets a woman (played by Blunt) who’s also in the process of trying to escape her old life.

The feature is a return to Durham for Firth.  In 2009, he was part of the cast of “Main Street, which shot in the city and toured various film festivals last year.

Dante Ariola will direct the film from an original script by Becky Johnston, who most recently wrote 1906, about the San Francisco earthquake, for director Brad Bird. Her credits include co-writing “The Prince of Tides,” which earned her Academy Award and Writer’s Guild Award nominations,“Seven Years in Tibet” and “Under the Cherry Moon”.

The film will also be shooting at locations in Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Currie, Wallace, Fairmont Lumberton, Raleigh and Graham.

Film industry’s Impact on North Carolina
Estimates show that the “Arthur Newman, Golf Pro” production will create 150 crew positions and around 400 talent opportunities while injecting around $7 million into North Carolina's economy.

The N.C. Film Office touts 2011 a banner year for the state’s film industries, with productions expected to spend in excess of $200 million while creating more than 3,000 crew, 500 talent and 21,000 background talent job opportunities.
