Course Investigation
To ensure that every student has appropriately considered the various options for Mini-Term activities, each student will be required to discuss a minimum of three proposed courses (and/or an independent project) with the involved NCSSM faculty or staff and to obtain their signatures below. Although this can take place anytime between October 20th and October 30th, the following date/time, has been set aside specifically for Mini-Term planning:
Meeting Block, Monday, October 26, 2009 12:30-1:15PM
Each student must turn in the Course Investigation form with his or her three courses to the Academic Programs Office. It may be downloaded here.
Proposed Courses
The Mini-Term 2010 Proposed Courses catalog describes the extensive array of potential opportunities our faculty members have developed. These range from quantum theory to infinitesimal calculus and from kitchen chemistry to Shakespeare. Instructors are encouraged to employ creative teaching methodologies, and the courses are conducted in a variety of academic settings, both on the NCSSM campus and off. In some cases they are truly OFF campus, like the Mammoth Cave in Kentucky or a coastal research station in Belize. In addition to choosing from among these exciting course possibilities, students also have the appealing option of proposing their own independent academic project, under the guidance of an NCSSM staff member. Such projects undergo a rigorous review by a committee of faculty and staff. If approved, the student is permitted to work individually, or in a coordinated group, reporting daily progress to the adult sponsor.
