Yes, but we request that you place the sound setting to vibrate or off.

What type of study spaces are available in the Library?

There are group tables and individual carrels throughout the Library, as well as a small number of enclosed group study rooms.

How do I reserve a room in the Library?

To reserve a room in the Library, log into Focus. On the left side of the screen, click on NCSSM, then Room and Vehicle Requests. Using your Focus ID and password, log into the reservations system. Select Bookings, choose Library from the View Schedule drop down menu, and then click on the room you wish to reserve. The reservation will show as pending until approved.

Are there any guidelines for reserving a room?

Yes, the guidelines for reserving a room are:

  • Reservations are limited to two hours.
  • A room can only be booked for two consecutive days.
  • Group study rooms 24, 25, 26 and 27 should be reserved only for groups, not for individual study.
  • The mezzanine area should only be reserved for an entire class or very large group that can find absolutely no other place to meet; teachers have first use of the space.
  • If a room is not occupied within 15 minutes of the reservation time, it will be considered available for use by others.
  • Management reserves the right to decline a reservation, amend any of the above or abolish the process entirely if abuses occur.

How can I tell what rooms are reserved in the Library?

To view current reservations, you must be logged on to phpScheduleIt, then click on Schedule Calendar and select Library from the View Calendar drop-down menu.

Can food and/or drink be brought into the Library?

The library offers hot beverages for sale in the Smart Bar (located to the right, directly inside the Library's entrance). Snacks, such as a piece of fruit or a muffin are acceptable; full meals and whole pizzas are not. Students should eat meals, pizzas, etc in the cafeteria or the Bryan lobby.

How can I access the Library's resources from off-campus?

The Library maintains a list of IDs and passwords for databases that can be used for remote access. Please see a staff member for information.

How do I place materials on reserve for my students to use?

Fill out a reserve request form (one class per card). Bring the form, including any personal items you wish to make available, to Mr. Myles in the library. Items will be returned once they are removed from the Reserve Collection.

How can I find out what books the library has recently added to its collection?

From the catalog, click on the Catalog tab. Next, click on Destiny Quest; it will be located on the left side of the screen. The next screen will display a list of the 15 most recently added item's to our collection.

Does the library have recycling bins?

Yes. Glass, plastic bottles, aluminum, steel, newspapers, and magazines can be recycled.

Can I check out materials from UNC?

NCSSM staff can check out books from any UNC library. To receive borrowing privileges, register with the librarian in the Circulation Department at Davis Library, where you will receive a barcode to use when you check out.

What work service opportunities are available in the Library?

Juniors may be assigned to work service in the Library for one trimester. Rising seniors may ask to have Library as their work service. They also can apply for a liaison or Smart Bar position.

How do I connect to the Q: drive?

For Windows

  2. Click Computer
  3. From the menu, select Map network drive
  4. Change the Drive to Q:

  6. Check both boxes
  7. Click Finish
  8. When prompted, type ncssm.edu\your username in the username field and your password in the password field
  9. Check the box beside Remember my credentials
  10. Click OK
