Policies

Library Cards

A personal NCSSM ID card with the LIT@COM patron bar code on the back is required to check out materials. Users are responsible for all items checked out on their cards. Lost or stolen cards must be reported to a LIT@COM staff member immediately. Replacement Library cards are issued by the Head of Security.

Circulation

Library resources are available to all faculty, staff, and students. The same circulation loan periods apply to all users. Faculty needing library materials throughout the trimester for curriculum support may request an extended trimester loan period. Fall trimester loans are due January 1; spring trimester loans are due June 1. All materials circulate with the exception of reference books and reserve materials. The prompt return of all materials is necessary to provide the maximum availability of materials. Users are notified by campus mail and e-mail when materials are overdue. Materials returned within five days of the dated overdue notification would not accrue a fine.

To encourage the prompt return of borrowed materials, students are charged the following fines:

General collection
Overnight reserve items
Camcorder
$0.10 cents per day per item
$1.00 per hour
$1.00 per day

If materials or equipment is lost, the user is charged the replacement cost of the item plus a $10.00 processing charge. To stop accumulating fines, the user must either return the materials or report the materials lost. Clearing obligations means paying accumulated fines and replacement costs of lost item(s) plus the $10.00 processing charge, all of which will be deducted from the student security deposit.
