NCSSM Guidelines for Using Copyrighted Materials

These guidelines were adapted with the permission of the Jefferson County Public Schools (Golden, Colorado). They were revised November 2005.

General Guidelines

  • Use LIT@COM resources including electronic collections, interlibrary loan, and acquisition request forms
  • Link to Web pages in Moodle (unless the terms of the site restrict linking)
  • Disseminate works in the "public domain"
  • Follow the guidelines outlined on this page
  • Modify to non-infringing use or choose alternative material
  • Seek permission from the author/publisher

Guidelines for Disseminating Copyrighted Works Electronically

  • Use NCSSM servers
  • Give access only to students currently enrolled in the class by turning on the password protection feature in Moodle
  • Use materials that are directly relevant to the teaching content of the course, not entertainment or reward
  • Attribute the source
  • Do not share course materials, which may be copyrighted, with others
  • Do not distribute illegally made or obtained copies
  • Do not circumvent technological protections used to prevent copying or distribution
