And you thought Thomas Jefferson was just a founding father!  Jefferson in Paris recounts Thomas Jefferson’s life from 1784 to 1789 when he served as the American Ambassador to the court of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette of France.  There’s intrigue, decadence, love affairs, and Sally Hemings.  Join us on Friday, September 16 to find out about another side of the author of the Declaration of Independence.

August 26: Persepolis

War.  Revolution.  Family.  Punk Rock.  All part of growing up.

This is the tag line for Persepolis, a 2007 animated film based on the graphic novels of Marjane Satrapi.  The story follows a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Persepolis was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2007 Academy Awards.

What is the Humanities Film Series?

The Humanities Film Series is a production of the Humanities Department at NCSSM that bridges the gap between the classroom and the outside world.  Films screened in the series will stretch across the disciplines to reveal the intricacies of history, literature, music, art, world language, and society in celluloid form.
