English & History

The Humanities Department at NCSSM offers students the opportunity to learn and think in an interdisciplinary manner. Core English and history courses include American Studies, Western European Cultural Studies, and courses that survey the histories, literature, and cultures of Latin America, Africa, and Asia. These offerings are taught by teams of faculty from diverse Humanities backgrounds who together integrate history, art, literature, and politics into their courses to give students a more complex understanding of the past and the present.

In addition, the Humanities Department gives students the opportunity to pursue more focused interests through courses such as Classical Mythology, African American Studies, International Relations, World Religions, Twentieth Century Philosophy, British Literature, and courses in Sociology, Psychology, and Economics.
