The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics is a public residential high school that educates academically talented 11th- and 12th-grade students who show promise of exceptional development, as well as special interest, in science and mathematics, and who reflect the demographics of North Carolina. The school, established in 1978 and a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina System, serves residential students at its Durham campus and provides distance education, teacher development, and outreach throughout the state.
