The Nazis forced prisoners arriving at the Majdanek death camp to remove their clothes  and shoes and to tie their shoelaces together before entering the gas chambers.  Victims were told that the gas chambers were showers and that their belongings would be returned to them.

Relationship to guideline

This photo symbolizes the horrific experiences of victims of the Holocaust; however, teachers should remember that one can not presume that the tragedy experienced by an individual, family, or community destroyed by the Nazis was any greater than that experienced by victims of other genocides.
