1 Million Pounds. Providing 857,000 Meals.

March 3, 2012 will be a special day for many current and former students at the NC School of Science and Math.  It will hopefully be the day that the school will cross the 1 MILLION pound mark in their 3 year history of the NCSSM Food Drive.  But more importantly, that 1 MILLION pounds if calculated to meals, will have provided roughly 857,000 meals to those in need in the 34 counties served by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC.

The 2012 NCSSM Food Drive will begin a multi-year goal of helping establish and educate those of the fight against hunger throughout the state of North Carolina.  For this year’s Food Drive, we have partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem who will receive a portion of the food collected by the NCSSM Food Drive.  In encouraging others to join our fight, the North Carolina School of the Arts will be hosting their own food drive on March 24th from 9am until 6pm to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank.  Each year, our hope is that the organizations that collect and partner with the various food banks in North Carolina will again collect food during the month of March to benefit their local food bank.  Thus, over the course of several years, building an army of citizens who hope to end hunger in their area and are more aware of the need their neighbors and other community members face.

We hope that you will join the effort in your community to make a difference in the fight against hunger.  If you have any questions, need help getting a drive organized in your area, or would like to be involved in the 2012 NCSSM Food Drive, please contact the Event Coordinator, Sue Anne Lewis, at ncssmfooddrive@gmail.com.

Thank you and see you on Saturday, March 3rd!

Howlin’ For Hunger

The NCSSM Food Drive would like to extend a special thank you to the North Carolina State University Student Government for organizing the Howlin’ For Hunger Food Drive that took place at the NCSU vs. Georgia Tech game on Saturday, February 26th.  Members from Student Government and the Center for Student Leadership, Ethics, and Public Service volunteered at the game collecting food brought by the Wolfpack Family.  Enjoy a few pictures from the game below!  To read an article on gopack.com, please click HERE.
