(35 minutes)

As you may remember from our first Faculty Council meeting, the Governance Task Force is looking at external governance of the school. We are currently looking at four options:

Staying an affiliate of the UNC system,

Becoming a constituent of the UNC system,

Joining the State Department of Public Instruction,

            Coming under the Governor’s office.

We are looking at how each of these options might affect the following areas: protection of the school in the General Assembly, finances, personnel, benefits, salaries, procedures, and curriculum.  We will be seeking input on all of these matters, but right now we want to ask the faculty a specific “what if” question:

If the school were to decide to pursue becoming a constituent of the UNC system, what would we want to ask of UNC General Administration regarding our curriculum? (Autonomy over the content of our curriculum would be non-negotiable.) Would we want to work out an agreement that certain courses here would receive credit or exemption at UNC schools? Or would we want the relationship to remain the same as it is now? What are the pros and cons of each position?
