2.      Approval of the minutes from January 11, 2000

The parents’ council is interested in parents being more active in helping the school.  Some of their ideas that  are relevant to faculty will be discussed, as well as some ways we think they may be useful to us.

 

5.  NCSSM Honor Code - Sohair Ahmadi

The academic committee of the SGA is interested in developing an academic honor code.  Where they are now, where they would like to go and how this fits with the new code of conduct will be discussed.  A copy of the current status of the honor code is attached.  A copy for the overhead will be available at the meeting.

 

6.  Other discussion items if time permits

 

  1. Follow up to Dr. Warshaw’s comments concerning in loco parentis.  What can the faculty continue to do to make this a good year?  How can we create a positive and safe environment for the students?
  2. Workload- what is a reasonable workload for the “average” B student at NCSSM?
  3. Graduation requirements – do we want to changes the graduation requirements?

                                                NCSSM Honor Code

 

-          I will not lie or cheat.

-          I will forthrightly oppose each and every violation of this code.

-          If I witness or become aware of any violations of this code, I will take the following actions:

1.       communicate directly with the violator either orally or written (anonamousity is optional)

2.       meet with honor advisor, appropriate faculty, or administration, and take actions accordingly

3.       communicate directly, either orally or written, with the honor council

-          I will let my conscience be my guide in my decision about whether my written report will name the person or persons I believe to have committed a violation of this code.

 

Honor Code Council:

-  Will consist of a total number of eleven students, six seniors and     

    five juniors

-  Positions:

* Jury- three seniors

* Student attorney general (SAG)- committee head                   

  appointed by SGA President

-  Working under SAG will be a group of students,               

two seniors and five juniors, who will spend their time investigating the case

-   SAG will appoint one out of the above seven to         

    act as a Prosecution Attorney

            -  SAG will also be in charge of setting dates for cases       

               and deciding which cases will go before the court

-  All decisions made in the Honor Council must have final      

               approval from the Academics Head

            -  Investigation of the case only includes questioning involving the          

               case and other academic aspects.

            -  Anything revealed during the case, or any final decisions will

               only be publicized to those directly involved.  Privacy is of      

                          utmost importance.

 

-  Every test or major paper should include a statement/pledge that students are  

   required to sign

 

-  Juniors must have a copy of the Honor Code and processes

 

-  Teachers must clearly what is acceptable or not acceptable in their  

   classroom in the form of a handout

 

-          Students will use their academic advisors as their honor advisors.  The honor  

     advisor will be there to support and guild the student.  Any conferences  

     concerning a violation of the honor code must be written up by the honor

     advisor and given to the SAG.  The SAG will then decide whether or not the

     incident should be brought to court.

 

Repeat Offenders:

      2nd offenders-  work detail for 20 hours in two months

      3rd offenders-  recommendation of dismissal, major work detail, expulsion from sports for the rest of the year, and dismissed from ant leadership positions.

1.   no credit given for assignment, letter of apology to teacher and  student, assigned a paper on the                  

       importance of academic honesty

2.         no credit given for assignment, letter of apology to teacher

       make-up assignment and still receive no credit

3.       letter of apology to teacher, paper on academic honesty

4.        no credit given, redo lab, letter of apology to teacher, paper on the importance of academic honesty
