Faculty Council Agenda - 9/29/1998

Discussion and Vote on Mini-Term Proposal 3:45 - 5:00

We will first hear a description of the timeline and procedures already in place. It is my intention to then discuss and vote on two sets of questions concerning the Mini-Term.

  1. issues that we the faculty have a large stake in and that we may want to decide ourselves; these might be "ground rules" upon which further building is done by other community groups. Examples might include
    1. who can teach a mini-term course?
    2. will this count as elective credit (1/2 unit) toward graduation?
    3. will the extra workload for faculty be acceptable?
    4. with the Mini-term contain mini-courses only or some combination of min-courses and independent (spw-like) projects?
  2. issues that we the faculty can not answer ourselves, but issues about which we might choose to give input. Examples might include
    1. how much money is available (or necessary)?
    2. where will the days for the Mini-term come from?
    3. what will be the minimum expected workload for faculty?

Votes will be taken only at the meeting; there will bot be voting by ballot in mailboxes. So please come on time and come prepared. The above questions have been placed on the faculty council bulletin board. Please send your ideas about possible answer to these questions to the bulletin board. Perhaps these are other questions that ought to be discussed; send those too. Perhaps you think some questions are in the wrong category; let the bulletin board know.
