Donor Profile

For many years, the Wachovia Foundation has been a friend and supporter of The North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. In 1999, the partnership grew further when Wachovia became a major corporate sponsor of NCSSM's Mini-Term. Throughout its history, the School has placed high value on providing opportunities for students to engage in unique educational experiences outside the regular school curriculum. Through the generosity of Wachovia, NCSSM's Mini-Term allows students to explore a particular subject area of great interest to them in a detailed, personal manner. Traditionally, Mini-Term is eight-ten days of study in the month of March.

Mini-Term courses are designed and taught by faculty members. The course topics range from ecological fieldwork to research on the Holocaust. Instructors are encouraged to employ creative teaching methodologies designed to meet the needs and goals of the students. Wachovia's Mini-Term courses are conducted in a variety of academic settings, both on and away from the campus. Additionally, students have the very appealing option of designing and creating their own academic projects, under the guidance of NCSSM staff members. Such proposals undergo a rigorous review by a committee of faculty, staff, and students.

Mini-Term is an integral part of the NCSSM experience. Wachovia's commitment to and belief in the School is essential in the continuing growth and development of our programs.
