Annual Giving Opportunities

Annual giving represents those unrestricted gifts of cash, stocks, or property made to NCSSM on an annual basis by alumni, parents, trustees, grandparents, foundations, corporations, faculty/staff, and friends of the School.

The Annual Fund is important because it provides NCSSM with critical financial support; yearly, NCSSM budgets a certain amount of expected Annual Fund giving and plans the School’s programs based on that amount.

Annual Fund gifts are frequently made in the form of a pledge, payable in installments throughout the year. Many people find that they can make a larger gift by spreading their payments over a number of months or years.

NCSSM also accepts MasterCard and Visa for Annual Fund gifts.

The Annual Fund year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.

Types of Gifts to NCSSM's

Annual Fund Program

Unrestricted gifts: Gifts spent to help offset the difference between state funds and actual costs/needs. The gift is made unconditionally

Designated gifts: Gifts made to benefit a particular NCSSM program. Designated gifts are, most noteworthy, for budget relief...those programs already covered in the current year budget.

Matching gifts: Many corporations and businesses match their employees' gifts to non-profits. All donors are encouraged to check with their corporations for information on matching gift opportunities.

Restricted gifts: A donation for a special purpose or program over and above NCSSM's current budget. Without the restricted gift, the item or program would not have occurred.

Gifts in Kind: A donor may make a gift of tangible property to NCSSM. Under current tax law, the School cannot provide appraisals for gifts in kind. NCSSM will issue a receipt indicating the gift received, but cannot put a value on that gift. The donor must provide his/her own record of the value of the gift.
