I walked today
against a light gray sky
and freshly cut grass
only to realize
my flip-flops
were nothing but
patterned canvas
and weren't made to
sink in mud
and collect water
and grass blades.
So I took them off
and walked barefoot,
a new layer of the world
building up on my feet.
