The following is a letter found in the Uzbekistani Mountains near the source of the Swarm’s attack.
“They came right out of the ground!”
Those were the yells that the villagers heard as the soldier ran out of the hazy Uzbekistan Mountains. It had been three years since the American troops had invaded the peaceful mountain village, and there was constantly fear running through the village whenever more jet fighters landed. No one in the village knew why the troops had come there, but they did know that scientists spent days out in the mountains, often coming back with horrible wounds.
“They came right out of the ground! They came right out of the ground!” the soldier cried again and again as he came running through the village to the heavily fortified military base. A lone soldier came running out of a village hut, going toward the wall of the base. He pressed a button and a siren started to blare out a warning.
Suddenly, the base was a frenzy of activity, filled with soldiers carrying futuristic weapons and scientists with heavy packs on their backs. A colonel rushed out of the base toward the ragged soldier that came out of the mountains.
“What is it?” shouted the colonel, “What is coming out of the ground?”
“It’s them! The creatures from the mountains!” said the soldier shrilly, “We went to check the pens and all we found were holes. Then, they just started digging holes right beneath the other soldiers and the soldiers fell into the mouths of the monsters waiting in the holes. Now they’re coming to get us.”
Just then, they heard screams coming from the other side of the village.
“It has started,” the colonel frantically said, “quickly, into the base!” They both started to run, but suddenly, a hole appeared beneath the colonel and he fell into the darkness of the earth, screaming all the way down. The soldier from the mountains ran back to the base before he could be pulled under too.
One by one, all the people standing on the ground were fed to the monstrous horde beneath them. Soon, only the people in the base were left alive. They stood attentively waiting for the mutants to appear out of the ground. Suddenly, a huge moat of earth surrounding the base seemingly disappeared. Dust engulfed the base, blinding the soldiers, and it was then that the monsters began their attack.
They climbed out of the moat, and started to jump over the walls in a swarm. They stood nine foot in height and had pure black bodies, disregarding the huge yellow crystals growing from their backs. Out of their mouths sprouted large tusk-like fangs that they used to skewer their victims. The soldiers tried to fight back, but in vain. Soon the entire base and village was engulfed in the shadow of these monsters. The only person left was the soldier from the mountains, and soon, a hole appeared beneath him as well, and he disappeared, the last warrior against the first attack.
No one survived that attack, and no one got out the news of the first strike of the mutants. How do I know all this you ask, if no one survived the attack, no one told the tale. Well, I was there on that faithful day. I was the soldier that first ran out of the mountains. While most military leaders in the US probably thought I had died along with the rest of the base, the monsters had misdirected their tunnels and I fell into a group of just three mutants. I bravely fought them off, escaping with deadly, horrific wounds. I traveled through the tunnels to this cave. Because I am near death, this is the only letter that I will be able to leave for mankind to know about the first attack of these monsters that I have appropriately named, the Swarm. I will, however, give you one piece of information that will be invaluable to the defenders of mankind. The Swarm was created by the Americans. They didn’t just appear or mutate alone, they were mutants planned to be used as war machines by President Meader, and if you find Meader’s documents, you will no doubt find the weakness of the Swarm.
