The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
And he thinks
That divinity is like him.
So Man looked at the heavens,
Made by Someone's hands,
And Man said:
“Let us make gods in our image, in our likeness.
For do we not rule over the waves of the sea,
Over the storms of the air,
Over the gold of the earth,
And over the wild beasts charging along the ground?”
So Man created gods in his own image,
In the image of Man he created them,
Tumultuous and quarrelsome he created them.
“You have been fruitful and increased in power,
You have filled the earth and subdued men!
We have given everything that lives and moves
As food for you!”
And Man saw all that he had made,
And behold, it was very bad.
