And down you go
But before you go
Let me tell you the story of a girl
Named Ann Alicia Bradley

Who dared to love another
Girl.
Who dared to live
In sin.

She started out normal, a fine young girl,
In a fine new home, with her brothers,
And cats,
And mother, and father,
And dogs,
And God, of course. And God.

She prayed every night
On her knees beside her bed:
May God keep me safe
And forgive my sins.

Forgive the sins of an innocent girl.

To church every Sunday,
To school every day,
To tennis every Saturday morning.
Her parents did right by her,
They did.

She had friends too, of course.
She was a popular girl.
Friends she was close to —
She loved them.

And as time went along
She had a particular friend
Maria
They grew to love each other
In terrible ways. Perverted ways.
And Ann seemed to think this was okay.

And soon enough, she dared to go
To her father, and mother, and ask
For acceptance!
Her parents, God-fearing people they were,
Were at a loss
Love the sinner, hate the sin
But if the sinner won’t repent?
What then?
Well, one bad apple spoils the bunch
So out they threw her.
She was welcome back any time, of course.
As long as she abandoned those ways.

But sin has its support groups too.
And Maria’s parents were accepting
They provided shelter.
Ann never returned to her family.
Who had loved her?
Who had cared for her?
Who had led her to God?

Last anyone heard, Ann moved in with someone —
Not Maria.
Promiscuous, too.
And the government,
Our government,
Was letting them have a baby.
And they call it love.
And they thought they were happy
Without God.

You should sleep now darling.
Go to sleep, get your rest.
So down you go.
But before you go,
Remember:
Would you want to be
Like Ann Alicia Bradley?
