About The Program

NCSSM has a long history of excellence in the sport of cheerleading. Despite a shorter season and limited practice time, our program has consistently produced some of the most decorated teams at the school.

Cheerleading at NCSSM is a challenging sport. Our teams do advanced stunts such as liberties, full twist cradles, basket tosses, full squad pyramids and transitional stunts. We also love to dance and tumble! Our competitive routines have won us numerous awards and even recognition from the Governor! During the 1999-2000 season, our co-ed squad won first place in its division at the Holiday Classic, qualifying us for the Can-Am International Cheerleading Competition at Myrtle Beach, SC. We were also a finalist for the title of National Cheerleading Team of the Year. This was a great honor, since the award is based not only on team skill but also on academics, service and recommendations from community leaders. This was NCSSM's second time in the finals.

Cheerleaders at NCSSM support all sports teams at the school. We perform at pep rallies and other community events, and all men’s and women’s basketball games. Try-outs are generally held in September and required elements include two jumps, a dance, some form of tumbling and a cheer. No experience is necessary, but those interested in trying out must be spirited!
