Summer Leadership Experience
NCSSM Annual FundGiven NCSSM's challenging academic culture, it's no surprise that the transition for many students from their home school to NCSSM is a jarring one, particularly for students who come from less-resourced school districts. To ensure the success of all of its students, NCSSM has in place a number of support mechanisms, both formal and informal. In 2009-2010, unrestricted funds were used to support NCSSM's Summer Leadership Experience, an initiative for African-American, Hispanic, and Native American males at NCSSM. The week-long program encourages students to pursue careers in STEM related fields, facilitates a smooth transition for these students into the academic and residential environment at NCSSM, and provides them with research opportunities at North Carolina State University.
