  Neighborhoods
At NCSSM, there is among the student body and staff a solid sense of community, and with good reason - NCSSM is at the center of the Watts Hospital-Hillandale Neighborhood, one of the most comfortable and desirable family communities in Durham. The neighborhood was established nearly one-hundred years ago on lots near the School's original tenant, the former Watts Hospital. Today, the neighborhood joins the School's property on three sides.

From almost any spot on the NCSSM campus you can see the homes of our neighbors, watch them walk their dogs, push their children in strollers, and jog along the tree-lined streets.

But our neighborhood is more than just Watts-Hillandale. Durham's historic Ninth Street, part of the Old West Durham neighborhood, with its bookstores and music stores and coffee shops and eccelectic shopping, begins outside campus' door. Walk down Ninth Steet and take a left and you'll be on Duke University's East Campus. And downtown Durham and Chapel Hill's lively Franklin Street are just a short bus-ride away.

NCSSM is a great place to live, to work, to study, to play. Sure, it's a school, but it feels a lot like home. Come visit and you'll soon know why. If you like, visit the neighborhood association website here.
