• Eligibility: Students must currently be in the 10th grade and their parents must be residents of North Carolina by December 1 of the applicant's 10th grade year. It is strongly advised that Students enroll in Algebra II or higher level math by the 10th grade year to increase the competitiveness of their application.
• Applications: Applications are available for completion online at ncssm.edu. All applications must be filled out online, there are no exceptions.
• Deadlines:
  • Students: Applicants must have their application sections finished by January 15 or 21 days from the time they first register for an account.
    There are no exceptions to this deadline.
  • Teacher and Counselor evaluation forms: Teacher and Counselor Evaluation Forms must be completed online by the February 15, 2008 deadline. Teachers and counselors are only able to access forms of those applicants who have completed Sections I & II of the online application. Applicants must have a teacher evaluation form filled out by:
    1. 9th or 10th grade Science Teacher
    2. 9th or 10th grade Mathematics Teacher
    3. 9th or 10th grade English Teacher
    Applicants must also have a Guidance Counselor Evaluation Form filled completed on their behalf. Counselors should send in official transcripts and school profile AFTER first semester grades have been recorded.
• SAT: All applicants must take the SAT I as a 10th grade student. Scores are compared to the average score of the school currently attended or county if the school is a specialized school, home school or new school with no SAT data. Score reports from tests administered only on the following dates will be accepted:
  • October 6, 2007
  • November 3, 2007
  • December 1, 2007
  • January 26, 2008
  We recommend that students register to take the SAT prior to the January test date. Test site cancellations due to inclement weather often occur during January.
  
  Only official score reports or score reports on transcripts will be accepted; therefore, students must use the NCSSM special code 2241 in Block 11A of the SAT registration form to ensure that test results are sent directly to the NCSSM Admissions Office.
• Discovery Days: All applicants are required to attend a Discovery Day on the NCSSM campus. On Discovery Day, applicants take a math test covering Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II concepts and an essay writing test. Please check the following list to see which date a particular county is scheduled to attend Discovery Day:

• Selection: The NCSSM Selection Committee meets April 2-4, 2008 to assess application portfolios. Selection Committee decisions will be posted on the student profile page of the online application page in mid April, 2008. Finalist and Wait List Finalist are required to attend Welcome Day on April 19, 2008 in order to complete placement testing, pre-enrollment and pre-registration.
