Beyond the scope of our normal curriculum, we offer students opportunities to explore areas of interest through formats different than the traditional classroom experience. The following forms of learning experience are designed to offer just such an alternative:
Individualized Study Allows students to move at their own pace and style through the course within the regular curriculum. Independent Study Independent Study is available to any student who wishes to explore a topic or area of interest not offered in the regular curriculum. This option is available in all disciplines with the scope of the program left to the discretion of the instructor. Seminars The NCSSM Seminar program creates teams of three to ten students and faculty sponsor who meet at a specified time to focus on a particular aspect of a discipline. Ethics and Leadership Conference There is a pervasive need for leadership in the world. The challenges that face us, whether seen as opportunities or problems, demand effective and coordinated action. Curriculum that addresses development of both the skills and the ethical foundations of effective leadership is, therefore, an important undertaking. Bright, motivated high school students have great potential for acquiring leadership skills and problem-solving abilities as part of their education to become effective, ethical leaders Please visit the ELC Home Page for more information. For information regarding grading and requirements for special programs, contact the Registrar or see the course catalog. |
